“Chopta- Chandrashila- Tungnath”- The Sacred Trek

The Tungnath Temple is situated in the Uttarkhand state and the district is Rudraprayag. The region under which the temple is situated is called Garhwal. Actually the Uttarkhand has two regions one is Kumaon and one is Garhwal. Most of the religious places are in Garhwal where Tungnath is one of them. It is one of the parts of “Panch Kedar Temples”. Kedar means Lord Shiva so this temple is dedicated to him. These 3 places Chopta, Tungnath, and Chandrashila are incomplete without any one of them. 

Chopta Valley is like a blessing for all of us by our beloved mother nature. This valley is the home of various Himalayan species of birds and animals. The whole valley remains lush green in the summers and becomes pure white by the falling snow in winters.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit this Trek is from the month of  April to June in summers and post-monsoon the favorable months will be October to December. The specialty of this trek is that you can also attempt this during the wintertime where you will experience the virgin snow in full swing. The months favorable for winter trekking are January to March.

During the Spring, Autumn and Post Monsoon the weather remains pleasant and all conditions remain suitable for trekking as there is not any kind of threat of natural hazard. In the monsoon, this area receives heavy rainfall so there may be chances of land sliding, rainstorms which are not the favorable condition of trekking.  

How to Reach 

By Road: 

Chopta is well connected from the major cities of the Uttarakhand like Rishikesh, Dehradun, Haridwar. The nearest city is Rishikesh where Chopta is 164km away from it. There are government and private buses running from there other than this you can hire private taxi cabs. It will take 5-6 hrs to reach Chopta from Rishikesh.  

By Train:

The closest railway station is Rishikesh. It is well connected with all other railway stations in India. From the railway station, you can continue your journey by boarding on the government and private bus or hire some private tourist taxi.

By Air:

Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun is the nearest and main airport of Uttarakhand. The distance between Jolly Grant Airport and Chopta is 226 km. There are flights from Delhi to Dehradun on a regular basis.
